We eat a great deal of meat in this country and it’s usually the star of the show and takes up most of the room on the plate but for more reasons than just money that is not the way it should be. A serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards and we don’t need more than that. I’ll bet though if you set that down on your husband’s plate he’d ask “Where is the rest of it?”. What you need to do is make things with meat in it like casseroles, stews and the like. This will help you to stretch out your money, serving less meat per serving, fill up the family and alleviate the complaining. Making hamburgers for dinner is great but it takes a lot of meat, with the same size package of hamburger you could likely get two meals, one could be shepherds pie and the other chili. I think you get my meaning. I am not saying to do this for every meal but if at least twice a week you were to make a meal that was filling to your family and would help you meet your grocery budget, why wouldn’t you do that? So start looking up recipes for beef stew, chicken soup, chicken enchilada casserole, baked ziti, sausage and bean casserole. The list goes on and on. And don’t forget that all important tool for helping you to get these things on the table in a timely matter! The crock pot/slow cooker.
