Apple Crisp-Frugal and Delicious

I hate waste.  My granddaughter came to stay and she had me buy some yellow delicious apples but she didn’t eat them.  I don’t care for yellow delicious apples to eat raw so I thought I’d make some Apple Crisp with them instead.  I got some Cortland’s to go along with the three I had and got to work.


Apple Crisp is a pretty cheap dessert and nutritious in the bargain and apples are generally pretty inexpensive and it doesn’t really matter if they are bruised or soft, they are going to be cooked any way!

I make my apple crisp a little differently than what I see in the cookbook.  I hate my apples to be watery and this can happen in this dish so first I slice up the apples and then I add flour and cinnamon.


No need to get out a bowl for that, you can just do it right in the dish you are going to bake it in.


Then you are going to mix up the topping



And finally you put that on top of the apples


And it takes just a little while to cook this up!

Apple Crisp

Six Medium Apples Cored and Sliced

1/4 Cup Flour

1 Tablespoon Cinnamon


3/4 Cup Packed Brown Sugar

1/2 Cup Flour

1/2 Cup Oats

3/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon

3/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg

1/3 Cup Butter, Softened

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Core and slice apples and place in an 8x8x2 pan. Mix in flour and cinnamon.  To make the topping combine Flour, Oats, Brown Sugar and Spices, cut in the butter.  Sprinkle over apples.

Bake until topping is golden brown and apples are tender, about thirty minutes.  Serve Warm.
