Lack of Planning on my Part for Amazon Prime Day

Here we are on Amazon Prime Day and I have not planned at all. For that reason I will probably not be purchasing much but instead will do some research and start planning for next year.

1.First of all I have not budgeted for this expense.  We have some specific goals for our money this year so the dollars are not there to go and just buy stuff. Purchasing an item at 50% off is great BUT just because you got a good deal doesn’t mean you saved money…it means you spent money.

2.Second of all in general when we want something we get it.  We do check to see who has the best prices on items that we want.  For instance we recently switched to using Cascade Ultimate for the dishwasher.

This is not a cheap product by any means but we really need to use it because it has water softener in it.  When we don’t use it we have problems with the dishwasher working properly because of our hard water.  Putting in a water softener is not money we want to spend right now either. At the grocery store these are 7.29 for 18 pods which is 40 cents a piece. They are also about that through Amazon, I can get a bunch more in a pack though.  So you see in this case does it matter where I buy them? What I think might save me money in this case would be to find coupons for this product to get money off in the grocery store!

3. I need to figure out if these things that are on Amazon Prime day are really deals and I can’t do that unless I watch these same things for awhile. We have found through trial and error everything here is not a deal so I want to be careful not to waste money just because there is a sale.

4.  I am a cheap skate.  I really am.  I started out many years ago and at that time I read Cheapskate Monthly by Mary Hunt  This is before the days of internet so it was a newsletter that you got in the mail and it helped me tremendously get through a difficult financial time.  I could use new dishes, I could use some clothes, I could use a new lamp for my spare room and the list goes on.  I don’t feel I NEED to have any of those things right NOW.

So in the end I am not shopping today because I am not prepared to spend the money today, I haven’t figured out if these things are deals and I am not sure there is anything that I actually really even NEED right now.
